Anna Molkanova is an interdisciplinary artist and director. Her immersion into professional creative activity began during her studies at the ceramics department of the academy of arts. After a great deal of creative experiments and constant search for her individual method of self-expression, she realized that her focus in art switched from the objectivized result of work to the process itself.
Currently Anna is exploring various media of spatial-tempotal arts. She creates performances, video-art pieces and stage plays. These days, above all the creative areas Anna prioritizes staging plays in the theaters. For Anna her work in the theatrical field is a way of exploring a human nature, that happens on the intersection of the visual and performative art. Anna is inspired by the idea of developing the theater as a space for the dialogue with a spectator: the contemporary human being. The director believes in the exceptional value of a play as a platform for the collective experience.
Anna sees performance art and video art as sorts of painting, and producing videos or performances for her is like "making live artworks". Video-art fascinates Anna with its potential to capture the artistic concept. All in all, Anna’s experience with video and performance laid the foundation of her multifold perception of theater.
